The Microsoft Surface Laptop Ultra is the flagship launch device for NVIDIA's new RTX Spark platform. Announced at Computex 2026, it represents Microsoft's boldest Surface yet — combining premium hardware design with NVIDIA's gaming and AI silicon.

At its heart is the RTX Spark "superchip" — the same silicon powering NVIDIA's DGX Spark AI mini-PC, now optimized for Windows 11. With up to 20 CPU cores, 6,144 GPU cores, and 128GB of unified LPDDR5X memory, the Surface Laptop Ultra promises desktop-class performance in a thin-and-light form factor.

Microsoft Surface boss Andrew Hill described it as "the most powerful thing we've ever made." The 15-inch mini-LED display hits 2,000 nits of peak HDR brightness at 262 pixels per inch, making it the brightest display ever shipped on a Surface.

NVIDIA claims RTX Spark laptops will run graphically intensive games like Indiana Jones and the Great Circle at 100fps at 1440p — on battery power — while also handling 90GB 3D scene rendering and 12K video editing. The integrated NPU enables local 120-billion-parameter AI agents, a capability Microsoft is building into Windows with new security primitives.

Key unknowns: final pricing, exact release date beyond "H2 2026," storage configurations, and how well legacy x86/x64 apps perform through Windows' Prism emulation layer. But as the first Surface with NVIDIA silicon since the ill-fated Surface RT in 2012, the Laptop Ultra is Microsoft's most ambitious PC play in over a decade.
